The eclectic building is designed by González Riancho, inspired by fashionable resort hotels such as the Negresco in Nice.
12 July 1917
The Hotel Real opens, crowned by a great French-style dome and black slate mansard roofs, with regional pinnacles, stone coats of arms and balconies.
20th century
Over its first century the hotel weathers storms, a major fire and the Spanish Civil War, hosting major receptions and earning the nickname of Santander’s “bella dama blanca”.
2017
The Hotel Real celebrates its centenary.
