The Saxony Hotel, designed by Roy F. France for banker George D. Sax, is completed as one of Miami Beach’s first luxury resorts.
It is the first air-conditioned hotel on Miami Beach, and the costliest of its day, at an estimated $21,000 per room.
Nicknamed the “Ivory Tower” after its rooftop nightclub, it offers an Olympic-size pool, a 600-foot private beach and tennis courts.
Faena Group, co-owned by Alan Faena and Len Blavatnik, extensively renovates the building, with design by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin.
The hotel reopens as the Faena Hotel Miami Beach, with 169 rooms and suites.
