The Teutonia Club is founded as an exclusive club for Singapore’s German expatriate community.
Construction begins on Scotts Road of a new clubhouse designed by R. A. J. Bidwell of Swan and Maclaren, with turrets in an eclectic Victorian style.
The clubhouse opens as the Deutsches Haus with a ball for some 500 guests, including Acting Governor James Alexander Swettenham.
Germans are declared enemies by the British authorities and the club is seized by the Custodian of Enemy Property.
The Manasseh brothers buy the building at auction and rename the estate Goodwood Hall, after the English racecourse; it becomes a venue for dining and entertainment.
Goodwood Hall becomes the Goodwood Park Hotel, with rooms in the Tower Wing and suites in the houses behind it.
The hotel houses senior Japanese army officers; after the war, war crimes trials are held in a tent in its grounds.
Returned to Vivian Bath, the hotel is refurbished and gains Singapore’s first hotel swimming pool; it is sold to the Malayan Banking Group in 1963.
The Tower Wing is extensively renovated, its original roof replaced, and new suites including the Brunei Suite are added.
The Tower Block is gazetted as a national monument of Singapore.
The renovated Mayfair Wing reopens with 77 rooms and suites and a Balinese-inspired pool, designed by Ernesto Bedmar.
