The foundations are believed to belong to a Roman domus of ancient Corduba.
After the Christian reconquest, Ferdinand III grants the property; it later passes to the Fernández de Córdoba, lords of Aguilar.
Pedro Núñez de Herrera, bailiff of the Order of St John, lives here and gives the house its name; its late Gothic portal is attributed to Hernán Ruiz II.
The Marquises of Almunia sell part of the palace to the diocese, which builds the Hospital de San Jacinto and the church of Los Dolores.
Significant alterations are made in the neoclassical style.
The building houses public services, including a postal administration and the public works offices.
The Casa del Bailío is declared a Bien de Interés Cultural.
Restoration begins; excavations uncover Roman mosaics and the remains of a domus.
The palace is shared between the Hospes Palacio del Bailío hotel and the Biblioteca Viva de al-Ándalus.
