Hugh Barton, of the wine house Barton & Guestier, buys land at Straffan from the Henry family.
1832
Straffan House is completed in the manner of a French château, probably to designs by Frederick Darley; it is today the complex’s east wing.
1949
After more than a century in the Barton family, Derick Barton has to sell the estate to manufacturer John Ellis.
1988
After several owners, including film producer Kevin McClory, the house is bought by the Jefferson Smurfit Group.
1991
The Kildare Hotel and Golf Club – The K Club – opens.

The Barton Restaurant holds a Michelin star, earned by head chef Michel Flamme.

Gerry Gannon and Michael Smurfit buy the K Club privately.
2006
The Palmer North Course hosts the Ryder Cup, the first ever staged in Ireland.
2015
A new 70-bedroom hotel wing is added.
2016
The Irish Open is played on the Palmer North Course and won by Rory McIlroy.

The club is sold to Michael Fetherston in a deal reported at €65–70 million.
