The building opens as the Budapest office of the New York Life Insurance Company, designed by Alajos Hauszmann with Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl.
Károly Senyei sculpts the façade ornaments and the café’s sixteen devilish fauns; the New York Café becomes a hub of Hungarian literature.
The building is damaged in the war and later nationalised under the communist regime.
The New York Café is renamed the Hungaria Café.
Sculptors Sándor Boldogfai Farkas, Ödön Metky and János Sóváry carve replicas of the café’s damaged allegorical statues.
With the fall of communism, the café takes back its historic name.
The Hungarian state sells the building to the Italian Boscolo Hotels group for US$8 million.
After a full renovation it reopens as the New York Palace – A Boscolo Luxury Hotel, with 107 rooms and the restored café.
The hotel’s name is shortened to Boscolo Budapest Hotel.
It joins The Dedica Anthology as the New York Palace Budapest Hotel.
Covivio acquires the Dedica Anthology hotels, which pass under NH Hotel Group management.
Under Minor Hotels, NH’s majority shareholder, the hotel becomes the Anantara New York Palace Budapest.
