Mykolas Kazimieras Pacas, castellan of Vilnius and hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, buys two adjacent buildings that become his palace.
Italian architects, painters and sculptors who also worked on the Church of St Peter and St Paul decorate the palace; the hotel dates the mansion to 1677.
After the palace changes hands, some of its doors are closed off and cemented up.
Architect Saulius Mikštas leads the restoration: Baroque wall paintings are uncovered and restored fragment by fragment, and two floors are added.
Hotel Pacai opens with 104 rooms, a spa and two dining concepts by Noma co-founder Claus Meyer.
