1863 – 1866
The hotelier and master builder Carl Freiherr von Schwarz builds the Hotel Österreichischer Hof on the banks of the Salzach.
1866
The new hotel opens and its location soon draws members of ruling houses, aristocrats, senior clergy and artists.
Festival era
With the birth of the Salzburg Festival, the hotel becomes its social hub, hosting founders Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss alongside performers and high society.
1988
The Gürtler family buys the hotel and redesigns all rooms and restaurants, restoring a historic style and furnishing them with rare works of art.
2000
The Österreichischer Hof is renamed Hotel Sacher Salzburg.
