According to Taj, the palace commissioned by Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia is completed this year.
Another account dates the building to 1902, when it is said to have been built as a guest residence for a visiting Prince of Wales.
A rosewood lift is installed; it is still used today, along with the palace’s two-blade ceiling fans.
It becomes the guest house of Jivajirao Scindia, who brings his bride Vijayaraje Scindia here after their marriage.
Now a five-star heritage hotel managed by Taj, it runs partly on solar power from the Kadodiya Solar Park.
