Architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas creates the Arc de Triomf for Barcelona’s Universal Exhibition.
Vilaseca builds the neo-Gothic Casa Enric Batlló on Passeig de Gràcia for the industrialist Enric Batlló, who lives there.
The mansion forms part of the Hotel Condes, which stands across the street.
A renovation by Oscar Tusquets, Carles Bassó and Tote Moreno, with interiors by Mercè Borrell, fully restores the façade, its woodwork and shutters.
The Monument Hotel opens, sharing its premises with Lasarte, Martín Berasategui’s three-Michelin-star restaurant.
Plans are announced for a rooftop pool and terrace, now part of the hotel.
