First written mention of the site: large stone warehouses owned by a city alderman already stand next to a merchant's house, today the City Museum.
The warehouses are sold to mayor Marquart Bretholt; they later pass to leading Tallinn families such as the Viant, van Husen and Blanckenhagen.
After Estonia's capitulation in the Great Northern War and an outbreak of plague, the buildings are abandoned.
Merchant Wilhelm Brinck buys the two warehouses.
Brinck converts the Gothic warehouses into two residences with Baroque touches; both medieval and Baroque features survive, and one house is a national monument.
The hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, is named Estonia's Leading Hotel.
