Architect Karl Koller builds the Villa Suvretta, later bought by British MP Charles Sydney Goldman, who acquires 4.5 hectares around it.
Goldman and the Swiss hotelier Anton Bon lay the foundation stone of a new hotel.
Suvretta House is inaugurated before 200 guests, with 250 rooms, 370 beds, a library, a music salon and banqueting halls.
After Anton Bon’s death, his widow Marie Bon shapes the hotel’s atmosphere; their son Hans becomes director in 1916.
Vaslav Nijinsky gives his last public performance in the hotel’s ballroom.
One of Switzerland’s first ski lifts opens from Suvretta to Randolins; Douglas Fairbanks is its first passenger.
The hotel closes during the Second World War, then undergoes renovation.
Additional land is acquired to protect the ski slopes from development.
Dorli and Rudolf F. Muller take over the management.
Esther and Peter Egli, of the founding family, succeed Helen and Vic Jacob, who had run the hotel since 1989.
A renovation by designer Sue Freeman is completed, and the hotel receives the Prix Bienvenu of the Swiss Tourism Association.
