Mariano Fernández de Henestrosa is created Duke of Santo Mauro for his services to the Crown.
Architect Juan Bautista Lázaro builds the duke’s French-style palace on Calle Zurbano.
The palace is confiscated during the Spanish Civil War; the family returns a few years later.
The palace houses the embassies of Romania, Canada and the Philippines in turn.
The palace is converted into a hotel.
After a renovation by designer Lorenzo Castillo, it reopens as Santo Mauro, a Luxury Collection Hotel.
