The building rises on Fourvière after Italian artists and merchants settle in Lyon following the marriage of Henri IV and Marie de Médicis.
It is in turn a Lyon family mansion, a home for young women and a Carmelite convent.
During the First World War, the building serves as a hospital.
Now a hotel, it joins Relais & Châteaux and welcomes G7 members during the Lyon summit.
Five renovated apartments, including a penthouse facing the Fourvière basilica, are inaugurated.
The Lyon family hotel group Beauvallon acquires the villa.
A full renovation begins under interior designer Joséphine Fossey, blending monastic, Florentine and Lyon influences.
The hotel reopens, with chef Henri Carlier in the kitchen; the spa and the last eight suites follow in June.
The renewed Villa Florentine is officially inaugurated.
