13th century
The oldest of the townhouses that now form the hotel is built in Zurich’s medieval Altstadt.
1995
The Hotel Widder opens. Its name, German for “ram”, recalls that one of its houses was once the guildhouse of a master butcher.
2003
The hotel, then made up of eight townhouses and 42 rooms, belongs to the Swiss bank UBS.
2009
A major renovation of the hotel is carried out.
2016
A further renovation is completed to designs by the architect Tilla Theus.
2018
UBS sells the property to the insurer Swiss Life, while the hotel itself is run by the Zurich-based group The Living Circle.
